Abstract: Density Functional Theory (DFT) is a method used to approximate solutions to the linear Schrödinger equation, which describes the behavior of quantum electrons in an atom or a molecule. It is employed everywhere in quantum chemistry and physics and it has become the method of choice to simulate matter at the microscopic scale. DFT poses many interesting mathematical challenges, which I will review in the two talks.
